Is Dele Alli going to stick around at Tottenham? Delve into why he hasn't played much this season and whether it means he'll get traded.

Is Dele Alli’s future at Tottenham on troubled ground?

When you excel in your career, every mistake, big or small, could mean all the difference for you – especially if you are Tottenham soccer star, Dele Alli. Although Alli is an exceptional soccer player, his last performances make his soccer coach Jose Mourinho think otherwise. The Tottenham midfielder must prove his versatility to make his way back to Mourinho’s starting line-up.

Mourinho began to manage Tottenham in November of 2019 and appeared to be a positive influence for Alli; he scored three goals and provided three assists in Mourinho’s first four league games. Alli was making his way to the top and became one of the first names on the team sheet under Mourinho until the Premier League restarted.

What’s going on with Alli?

Since the restart of the Premier League, Alli only played three of Tottenham’s nine games. Although Alli had a small injury, many fans questioned the reasoning behind his absence.

Dele Alli doesn’t have any issues holding him back this season, so many were expecting him to be more present; however, he gave a disappointing performance during the opening game of the season against Everton. The game was so upsetting that Mourinho dropped Alli from the matchday squad for games against Lokomotiv Plovdiv & Southampton.

Does Alli’s omission from the premier league mean he is going to be sold by Tottenham? Fans think this may be the case. Paris Saint-Germain are already claiming an interest in signing Alli if Tottenham decides to sell him.

A new era

Dele Alli has played as an attacking midfielder for most of his soccer career; however, Mourinho prefers Harry Winks, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso recently. Former soccer player Danny Murphy, who spent two seasons at Tottenham, explained how Alli can make his way back to the top:

“I think he’s got to change his position,” Murphy stated, “He used to love playing in that No 10 role – but not too many teams in the Premier League now play with a No 10 . . . playing as a No 10 . . . he’s not going to get into that team.”

The villain amongst us

During a recent talk show, sports reporters claimed that Jose Mourinho is known to “kill players”. “He’s done it at every club he’s been at. At Manchester United he tried to do it with Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw. I feel like Dele Alli might be his new target.”

Some reports suggest Dele Alli might be swapped for Gareth Bale; other reports claim Dele is quitting because of Bale’s arrival. Whatever the case may be, Dele Alli’s future with Tottenham doesn’t look so promising.
