In light of some disturbing allegations, Armie Hammer decided to step back from his latest movie 'Shotgun Wedding'. Spill that tea by reading what happened.

Is Armie Hammer abusive? Why the actor pulled out of his latest movie

Let’s make one thing perfectly clear. There’s a special dark hole that all abusers should be shoved into so that they never see the light of day again. But, of course, there also needs to be an investigation into such matters. Armie Hammer finds himself in the midst of tabloid speculation over abuse allegations that have surfaced on Instagram from women that said they had been in sexual relationships with the actor.

The 34-year-old star, best known for his role in Call Me By Your Name, has denied these allegations, which, at this time, have not been verified. The timing, however, has led to Hammer exiting his role in the film, Shotgun Wedding, in which he was set to star beside Jennifer Lopez. He asked Lionsgate to recast the role, and the studio has complied to it.

Why did Hammer leave the film?

In a statement, Hammer said that timing is not right, given the current scandal that he and his family are weathering. He said, “[I]n light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.”

Hammer’s only response to the claims is that they were BS and that he was not responding to them. In July 2020, it was announced that he and wife of 10 years, Elizabeth Chambers, were divorcing. They have two children ages six and three.

Until the allegations are verified as true or disproven, it’s a smart move on Lionsgate’s part either way. They look good for letting Hammer out if it’s proven false, and they look good for not having an abuser in their film if proven true.

What is Shotgun Wedding about?

Shotgun Wedding follows a couple (Lopez, originally Hammer) at their destination wedding, which then gets held hostage. Yikes. A statement from Lionsgate when the film was announced in October 2020 said the following about Shotgun Wedding and the casting of Lopez and Hammer.

“Jennifer and Armie’s irresistible magnetism, separately and together, make them the perfect pairing for this action comedy. They are both incredibly funny actors that can also deliver on the action, but what sets this movie apart is the way their infectious chemistry commands the screen. You can’t take your eyes off them.”

We’ll keep an eye out to see who Lionsgate recasts as the groom in the upcoming film. But there are plenty of action-comedic actors out there. Maybe see if the Rock is free? Or Michael B Jordan? Maybe one of the Chrises? (Not Pratt because of the whole homophobic church scandal.) But it will be interesting to see who takes over Hammer’s role in the film.

What did those messages say?

The messages that Hammer allegedly shared were of graphic sexual fantasies, including cannibalistic ones. And one of them said, he has a desire to “drink your blood”. Which, woof. We’re not kinkshaming, but some of these things are. . .very graphic. Again, this is totally from an unverified account. We all know what a catfish is, after all.

Either way, this is not a good look for Hammer, who is focusing on his family during this time. But he cannot hide away forever due to his busy slate of projects, including Billion Dollar Spy and adaptation of Slate podcast, Gaslit. Plus, he has plenty of movies set for release in 2021.

Either way, keep a look out to see whether or not this is proven or disproven. If it is proven, then chuck him into the hole with the rest of the abusers that deserve to be there.
