With 'Aquaman 2' being more than confirmed, fans want to know many things, but all in all, what’s in store. Find out what's going on with the cast!

‘Aquaman 2’: Is Amber Heard going to be replaced in the cast?

At one time, it was home to the most intricate civilization on Earth. And now, the city of Atlantis is a kingdom living underwater governed by King Orm. The king is drunk with power and, still, he yearns for more. He holds a vast army at his disposal. He’s planning to conquer the remaining oceanic people. But again, he feasts on power like a holy dinner. King Orm wishes to conquer the surface world as well.

Perhaps, for a while, nobody stood in his way but things are changing. Aquaman isn’t just a great challenge to the king, he’s King Orm’s half-human brother, half-Atlantean brother and true heir to the throne. Through the guidance of the royal counselor Vulko, Aquaman must retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and must welcome and embrace his destiny as protector of the deep.

Fans remember the blockbuster hit Aquaman that graced the screens a few years ago. In 2019, it passed the one billion dollar mark becoming the third DC Comics adaptation to cross that great box office milestone. Aquaman topped The Dark Knight. It’s the second greatest DC superhero film of all time and the eighth highest grossing live-action superhero film ever made.

It’s behind the three Avengers movies, Black Panther, Iron Man 3, The Dark Knight Rises and Captain America: Civil War. Needless to say, it did pretty well. So understandably, a sequel to this masterpiece is about as certain as the sun and moon coming back. With Aquaman 2 being more than confirmed, fans want to know many things, but all in all, what’s in store. What is this rumor we’re hearing about the cast?

Release date

Usually, Hollywood studios try to produce their sequels as quickly as possible. It makes a lot of sense. We mean, who wants the blooming heat of a hit franchise to die down? See, as more time passes, the more chances for audiences to be distracted come. Maybe Aquaman wanted to be no different. With that being said, Aquaman 2 is taking a little longer to make its way to theaters.

Though given the circumstances beginning this 20s decade, the delay could be understandable. Warner Bros. announced that the blockbuster follow-up is currently scheduled to be released on December 16, 2022. So mark your calendars for that oceanic movie night!

The writer and director

Since his beginning in 2004, director James Wan has sprouted into one of the industry’s most prominent franchise masterminds, and we can see why. His career started with the release of the Saw movies. He gave us the terror featured in the universes of Insidious and The Conjuring. Plus, Wan directed Furious 7. He’s no novice to sequels but does have a history of not sticking around to finish full trilogies.

Given this uncertain history, it was unclear for a while if Wan was going to go back to do Aquaman 2. But now, the contract appears to be set.

On the writing field, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will be taking care of the words having been a co-writer for the first Aquaman film. When it comes to this filmmaker’s experience, he has the sequels The Conjuring 2, Wrath of the Titans, and the upcoming The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Warner Bros. trusts this writer to compose a proper follow-up and they should.

Cast

Aquaman 2 is still in the process of casting the lineup, but perhaps we have a peculiar clue. Fan art illustrating Game of ThronesEmilia Clarke replacing Amber Heard as Mera has arrived online.

The actress Amber Heard has been finding her way to the headlines for years as a consequence of her continuous legal battle with her ex-husband Johnny Depp. Depp was removed from his role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3. Some fans have demanded that Heard be fired from her role as Mera. And now, fan art is showing us Emilia Clarke in that same role.

For a little bit, it looked like Clarke was really going to replace Heard. Perhaps Game of Thrones fans were even excited, looking forward to it. However, it has been confirmed that Amber Heard is in fact joining (or shall we say returning) to the cast of Aquaman 2, maybe a win for team Amber. Heard even teased fans with a picture of her onset, reading a book.

Yes, Amber Heard will be back in the cast of Aquaman 2! Who has predictions for the sequel? Let us know in the comments!

  • Not watching it if Heard is in it. The facts prove Depp’s innocence. Shame on you DC.
