Are you a major animation nerd? Discover these hidden gem shows

The best animation shows worth watching usually have lasted for several seasons, are fun to watch for adults & children alike, and have high quality artwork. You’ll know an animation show is a total hit if a parent feels comfortable sitting back with their child and watching the show without feeling super annoyed or bored.

Animation shows available for binge-watching on Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus, and Amazon Prime can be incredibly entertaining. Here’s a narrowed down & comprehensive list of some of the most top-notch, funny, and impressive animation shows you might want to give a chance — if you haven’t already.

Adventure Time

An animation show like Adventure Time certainly deserves to be on this list because it’s a well rounded series that actually lasted for eight years on Cartoon Network. Most Cartoon Network shows don’t get that far. It premiered in 2010 and focuses on two main characters named Finn the Human and Jake the Dog.

The two go on several wacky adventures, intermingle with fantastical creatures, and try to save the day from hilarious villains. Some of the other interesting characters in this show include Princess Bubblegum, Marceline the Vampire Queen, Lumpy Space Princess, and who could possibly forget The Ice King?

Steven Universe

Steven Universe is a totally underrated animation show that deserves a lot more attention & appreciation. It’s about a boy named Steven Universe who lives life with a group of aliens who have taken the form of humans. They have magical powers in relation to several different crystal gems.

One of the aliens is named Garnet, another is named amethyst, and another is named Pearl. This show ran for five seasons coming to a close in 2019, which was extremely sad for some of its most dedicated fans hoping to see more.

Rick & Morty

Rick & Morty is a pretty popular animation show so by this time, most cartoon lovers have definitely heard of it or have given it a chance by watching it at least once or twice. This show focuses on a mad scientist named Rick Sanchez who convinces his grandson, Morty Smith, to help him out in his scientific lab going on crazy adventures

A lot of the time, Rick puts Morty in danger but since he’s a sociopath he doesn’t actually care. There are deeper messages included in this show which makes it an easier watch for adults than children.

Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy

Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy is one of the more dark animation shows in existence. That being said, a lot of parents might not be comfortable with their little ones consuming a television show like this because of the morbid humor that’s often included. Two kids named Billy & Mandy end up befriending the Grim Reaper and following him throughout his deathly adventures.

Bob’s Burgers

Bob’s Burgers is an absolutely hilarious animation show about a family who is struggling to make ends meet with their burger restaurant. The father of the family wants to be an awesome patriarch, but he’s constantly making mistakes when it comes to his wife & kids.

His restaurant is built directly across the street from a pizza shop which ends up becoming their direct competition during lunchtime and dinner time rushes. This show is filled with so many hilarious jokes, making it worth the weekend binge.

Gravity Falls

Gravity Falls premiered in 2012 and unfortunately came to an end in 2016, way too quickly according to its dedicated fans who still love to rewatch this animation show’s amazingly hilarious episodes today. This Disney Channel show ended up winning ten out of thirty-seven award nominations across its four years on the air. That’s extremely impressive if you ask us.
