What’s the perfect number of imposters when playing ‘Among Us’?

When playing Among Us, the second most essential decision you can make after picking which map to play on is how many imposters you should have. When setting up a room on Among Us, you can pick between one to three imposters. Of course, you have to also have a certain amount of people in your room to actually be able to use those imposters.

There’s more than you think that goes into this decision. Among Us can truly change solely based on the amount of imposters you have. Each amount of imposters can affect how quickly the game ends based off murder, as well as how hard or easy it would be for an imposter to win.

So, what is the perfect number of imposters in Among Us? It really comes down to the group size.

One imposter advantages

Look, we know you’re not always going to luck out and get ten people to play Among Us at once. It’s just not realistic. So, if you can’t get more than six people in a game, don’t be afraid to set your room to only one imposter. Make sure none of your friends are hacking though, because you don’t want the same person to be imposter multiple times.

In a one imposter game, the imposter can still end the game with an O2, seismic, or reactor emergency. However, it’s harder for the imposter to end the game by murder, as the imposter has to take out everyone else except for one person. If you end up playing a one imposter game, try to make the settings a little easier for your imposter.

Make the kill distance longer, lower the cool killdown a bit, and even increase the imposter vision. That way, even if the imposter is rolling solo, it’s easier for them to catch a win in Among Us

Two imposter advantages

Arguably the most popular imposter setting in Among Us, two imposters is a standard in most games. As long as you have at least six people, you can have two imposters in your game. For most people, they see this as the perfect amount so you don’t have to go in it alone, but it’s still a challenge to catch a win versus three imposters.

Similar to the one imposter game, a two imposter game will end when both imposters kill all but two of the crewmates. Of course, if the crewmates manage to vote off an imposter, the game can still end in the same way as a one imposter game.

The added benefit of the imposter game however is imposters can try to fool crewmates into thinking a crewmate is the second imposter, therefore getting someone innocent voted off.

In this game, you can leave default imposter settings, but we would still recommend turning off visual tasks. That way, it’s a bit easier for your two imposters to fake a Med Scan and go in for the kill.

Three imposter advantages

To pull off a three imposter game, you have to have at least eight players lined up to play. This game is extremely difficult for the crewmates, as the imposters don’t even have to kill off half the crewmates to score a win for the round. With just two to four kills, the imposters can score the win.

If you’re brave enough to put three imposters into your Among Us game, make sure you make the imposters’ lives as hard as possible. Turn on visual tasks, make the kill distance short, and don’t be afraid to up the cool killdown.

Two imposters is the most popular number, but that doesn’t make it the perfect number. Experiment, and find out for yourself what the perfect number of imposters is.
