‘Good Omens’ release date and what else to watch on Amazon Prime

Over the past few years, it’s become increasingly evident that Amazon Prime isn’t just good for scoring same day deliveries of emergency gin and snack foods (lazy? Us? Nah!) – it also boasts an amazing selection of Amazon Originals TV shows. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Transparent, Sneaky Pete, and Bosch have all kept us glued to our screens for years while we continue to throw money at the company on a monthly basis.

By now, you may have already worked your way through the majority of Amazon Originals on Prime (and if that’s the case then bravo), which means you need to start looking ahead to what new bingewatches the streaming service has cooking up for you in the next twelve months or so. Here are all the new upcoming Amazon Originals shows to get hyped about.

Comicstaan

The nine-episode Indian reality show is set to find the next big name in standup comedy. With a jury featuring Tanmay Bhat (Mr. X), Kanan Gill (Noor), Sapan Verma, and Naveen Richard (Pushpavalli), the show is fronted by some of India’s biggest standup talent.

Eat. Race. Win

Offering a behind-the-scenes look at the Tour de France with a side of culinary intrigue, this unusual show sees Chef Hannah Grant (a.k.a. the queen of performance cooking) sourcing the best fuel-packed food across France for Australia’s pro-cycling team, while riders are encouraged to victory by sports director Matthew White.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan

The highly anticipated new iteration of the popular CIA crime thriller sees John Krasinski (A Quiet Place) stealthily sliding into the iconic lead role. With a story revolving around Ryan following up on a suspicious series of bank transfers by diving in a deadly game of cat & mouse across Europe and the Middle East in a bid to stop a terrorist attack, the show sounds like it should satisfy fans of Clancy’s original stories.

Homecoming

Sam Esmail’s (Mr. Robot) latest psychological thriller stars Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman) and Bobby Cannavale (Blue Jasmine) and already has a second season greenlit, which bodes well for the overall quality of S1. Based on the podcast of the same name, the show is presented in a collage of telephone calls, therapy sessions, and overheard conversations, and follows a caseworker at a secret government facility and a soldier eager to rehabilitate into civilian life.

The Romanoffs

Boasting a cast including Christina Hendricks (The Neon Demon), John Slattery (Mad Men), Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Corey Stoll (Midnight in Paris), Paul Reiser (Aliens), and Andrew Rannells (among many others), this prestigious anthology show from Matthew Weiner (The Sopranos) centers around people who believe themselves to be the modern-day descendants of the Romanov family.

Vanity Fair

Co-produced by British TV network ITV, this period-set miniseries based on the novel of the same name sees Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One), Johnny Flynn (Clouds of Sils Maria), and Suranne Jones (Doctor Foster) in a satirical tale of social climbing set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars.

Forever

Sounding like an extended spinoff of a Portlandia sketch, Forever sees Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph playing a long-term married couple residing in southern California. Two-time Oscar nominee Catherine Keener (Capote) is set for a recurring role in the comedy, which will hopefully utilize the incredible acerbic chemistry Rudolph and Armisen have showcased together in various comedy productions since their time on Saturday Night Live together.

Good Omens: May 31, 2019

We’re as mad as you are that we still have to wait until 2019 to see this adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s beloved 1990 fantasy novel, but hopefully it’ll be worth it. Set in 2018, the story follows a demon (David Tennant) and an angel (Michael Sheen) who seek to prevent the coming of the antichrist after growing rather fond of their lives on earth.

Carnival Row: 2019 TBC

Another high profile production for Amazon, Carnival Row stars Orlando Bloom (Kingdom of Heaven) and Cara Delevingne (Suicide Squad) and follows the growing social unease between the increasing immigrant population of mythical creatures from a war torn country and the citizens of the city they’ve fled to. A string of unsolved murders heightens the tension, as the mystery eats away at the last remnants of peace between the two factions.

Too Old To Die Young: June 14, 2019

Written by Nicolas Winding Refn (Only God Forgives) and starring Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now) and Jena Malone (Contact), Too Old To Die Young follows a grieving police officer who finds himself in the criminal underworld of Los Angeles that’s dominated by working-class hit men, Yakuza soldiers, Mexican cartel assassins, and gangs of teenage killers. The teaser trailer suggests it’ll be full of Refn’s usual neon-soaked, melodramatic crime chutzpah and we’re seriously hyped for it.

Undone: 2019 TBC

As the latest animated show for grown-ups from BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Undone explores the elastic nature of reality via a woman who discovers she has a new ability to control time after a near-fatal car accident and uses her new skill to investigate her father’s death. Be sure to keep an eye out for the announcement of Undone’s premiere date!
