All the shows cancelled this year (and if they deserved it)

As the cable TV networks cast their cancellation axes upon a slew of TV shows in the midst of the 2018-19 schedule planning, we’re taking a look at all the shows that have been cut and whether or not they deserve to be saved. There’s a lot of research around the demise of cable TV and honestly, we’re not surprised that cable cutting is on the rise when companies treat the fandom so poorly.

Law & Order True Crime

The intention for this anthology crime series was for each season to cover a single real-life case. With The Menendez Murders edition, Edie Falco starred as Leslie Abramson, the defense lawyer for brothers Lyle (Miles Gaston Villanueva) and Erik Menendez (Gus Halper), who allegedly killed their wealthy Beverly Hills parents.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? No – and technically it hasn’t. As a stable performer on NBC, the show isn’t set to continue in the next season, but that’s not to say it won’t in the future. It’s a bit of a Curb Your Enthusiasm situation – so watch this space.

Taken

Based on the film trilogy of the same name, Taken stars Clive Standen (Vikings) as a younger version of Bryan Mills – a former CIA agent who seeks revenge on a personal tragedy that shakes his world.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? After two aggressively ordinary seasons that appeared to be nothing more than pointless exercises in brand name mining, it’s safe to say it’s a good thing Taken was cancelled.

The Brave

Created by Dean Georgaris (Paycheck) and starring Anne Heche (Six Days Seven Nights) and Mike Vogel (The Help), this short-lived military drama explores the complex missions of an elite covert operations team, delving into the lives of those who make personal sacrifices while pulling bold moves during dangerous missions behind enemy lines.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? The Brave definitely leaned towards the generic side with its thrills, but it did incorporate slick action sequences and crisp pacing. Nevertheless, it doesn’t really break any new ground and failed to grab the interest of audiences, which is why the show was handed a big fat pie just one season in.

Great News

Hailed as the 30 Rock follow-up audiences had been waiting for, the Tina Fey-produced NBC comedy follows an ambitious news producer Katie (Briga Heelan) who attempts to cut out a career for herself at a local TV station. However, things get messy when her pushy mother (Andrea Martin) is hired as the network’s latest intern. Yikes!

Did it deserve to be cancelled? It’s definitely not great news that this show was cancelled. Though it never kicked off in the ratings (as many shows don’t these days because streaming), it developed somewhat of a cult following thanks to its offbeat, surreal humor.

Rise

Creator Jason Katims adapted Rise from the novel Drama High by Michael Sokolove, about Lou Mazzucchelli (Josh Radnor), a history teacher-turned-director whose attempt to stage a production of Spring Awakening – a tale about the dangers of repressing sexuality set in 19th-century Germany – shook up the small town of Stanton.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? It’s sad to see the show axed after just one season since its premise had so much potential. However, some serious pacing issues mixed in with a very unlikable lead character and Rise was doomed from the first episode. Womp, womp.

Me, Myself & I

Just one season in and it’s the cut for the comedy show about one man’s life over a 50-year span, exploring three distinct periods – as a 14-year-old in 1991, a 40-year-old in the present day, and a 65-year-old in 2042. Starring Bobby Moynihan, Jack Dylan Grazer, and John Larroquette.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Amusing, heartfelt, witty, and an approach to family that is dealt with warmth (and a little cynicism), Me, Myself & I could’ve definitely done with at least one more season to see where creator Dan Kopelman was taking it.

Wisdom of the Crowd

Based on the Israeli series of the same name by Shira Hadad and Dror Mishani, Wisdom of the Crowd saw Silicon Valley tech innovator Jeffrey Tanner (Jeremy Piven) take crowdsourcing to a new level in a bid to find his daughter’s killer.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? The show was CBS’s lowest rated drama and its star Jeremy Piven is facing numerous sexual assault allegations. In other words, this show was doomed pretty soon after it premiered at the end of last year – it was a wise move from CBS to cut it from the schedule.

Living Biblically

An adaptation of the non-fiction book by A.J. Jacobs in which film critic Chip Curry (Jay R. Ferguson) tries to live in accordance with the Bible’s teachings as closely as possible.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Yep – despite being based on a bestseller, this show was destined for the trash heap as soon as its premise left the meeting room. God’s pulling an almighty facepalm right now.

Scorpion

The protagonist in Scorpion is loosely based on the life of computer expert Walter O’Brien as he forms an international network of super-geniuses to act as the last line of defense against the complicated threats of the modern world. Starring Elyes Gabel, Katharine McPhee, and Eddie Kaye Thomas.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? CBS’s cancellation of the geek-driven drama is one sting that fans won’t be able to shake for a while, having followed the show for four action-packed seasons. You need only glance at the fandom’s fiery SaveScorpion campaign to see that this show does not deserve to be cancelled just yet.

Kevin Can Wait

Kevin Can Wait centers on a retired police officer (Kevin James) who is on a fresh career path as he rises to the challenge of being a newly single dad.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Kevin might be able to wait, but this show’s ending couldn’t and it was cut after two seasons.

The fact is, viewers did not respond well to the decision to shift the focus and bring in James’s former King of Queens partner Leah Remini following Erinn Hayes’s character’s death, and it’s struggled to find its footing ever since.

9JKL

Based on the experience of producers and real-life married couple Mark Feuerstein and Dana Klein, 9JKL centers around actor Josh Roberts (Feuerstein) who, following his divorce and the cancellation of his TV show, moves to New York City in an apartment that sits between that of his parents and his brother, sister-in-law, and their baby’s apartment.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Without a doubt. Unless you’ve got a penchant for one-joke comedies that belong in the white man sitcoms of the 90s, 9JKL is a total snorefest and will definitely not be missed.

The Mayor

From creator Jeremy Bronson comes this rookie political comedy about a struggling hip-hop artist who runs for mayor to promote his mixtape. Curveball: He ends up winning the election. Starring Brandon Micheal Hall, Lea Michele, and Marcel Spears.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Despite an order for three backup scripts, ABC cut the show before it’d even finished its first season run. And while the comedy beats were a little shaky, there was heart and humor to this show and, combined with a solid cast, we think The Mayor deserves to be re-elected for a second season.

The Middle

Emmy Award-winner Patricia Heaton stars as middle-age, middle-class, middle-America mom Frankie Heck as she tries to steer her family through life’s ups and downs while tackling her career goals in this warm and witty familial comedy.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Although The Middle served its purpose as an easy replacement for Malcolm in the Middle, with nine seasons running since 2009, the show has definitely run its course.

Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time centers on a young woman named Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) whose life is anything but a fairytale. When her troubled past comes back to haunt her, we learn of a new world where fairytales and modern life collide.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Once Upon a Time’s happily ever after came sooner than expected, as ABC pulled the plug on the show after seven seasons. For the fans, the show has proven to be a community that brings people of all different ages, sizes, sexualities, and ethnicities together and offers up a form of escapism with a world that brings them hope.

You need only look at the save campaign launched by the show’s dedicated fandom to see that the real magic behind Once Upon a Time lies in their fierce determination to bring the show back.

Scandal

Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes is the creative mind behind this ABC drama about Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) – a former White House Communications Director who starts her own crisis management firm, only to realize her clients are not the only ones with secrets.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? The show served its purpose and delivered an entire White House full of WTF moments. But after seven long seasons and Rhimes ready to wrap up the story rather than let it fizzle out, the show finished with a satisfying enough ending.

Ten Days in the Valley

Kyra Sedgwick stars as an overworked television producer and single mother whose young daughter goes missing in the middle of the night. As she delves into the case, the line between her show and her personal life blurs.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? While Ten Days in the Valley trod familiar territory, its intriguing character study and engrossing mystery at least warrant another season. Unfortunately, it fell victim to a poorly executed marketing campaign and the show failed to find its audience. It bit the dust far too soon, in our opinion.

Quantico

Priyanka Chopra stars in this high-octane FBI thriller that delves into the lives of young FBI recruits training at the Quantico base in Virginia. When one of them is suspected of being a sleeper terrorist, the show takes a mysterious turn as the characters’ buried secrets make their way to the surface.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Quantico’s cancellation has been a “will they, won’t they” situation since the end of season two. While the show started off strong, it ran into issues as viewers and critics alike accused it of aping other shows. Some hope it will get picked up by Netflix for a fourth season, but we are of the view there are far better shows worth saving.

Designated Survivor

This cleverly titled action drama starring Kiefer Sutherland sees a low-level Cabinet member become President of the United States after a catastrophic attack kills everyone above him and leaves him in line for the top spot.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Absolutely not, particularly since season two finished on a cliffhanger as (spoiler alert) President Kirkman announced his bid for re-election. And with Netflix in talks to save the show from annihilation, Designated Survivor might just live to see another day. Watch this space!

Alex, Inc.

Zach Braff stars in this freshman comedy as yet another zany white guy who makes the curazy decision to quit his job and dive into the world of starting a podcasting business. Alex enlists the help of his second cousin Eddie (Michael Imperioli), while juggling the difficulties that come with business and family life.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Although the show contains some solid messages about work-life balance, it was a little overstuffed. As was ABC’s schedule – it was right to make room for more worthy comedies.

Deception

The Greg Berlanti-produced drama see Jack Cutmore-Scott star as Cameron Black – a man who was once the world’s most famous illusionist before his greatest secret was exposed and his career destroyed. However, he is recruited by the FBI where he uses his skills of deception to bust criminals and solve high-profile cases.

Did it deserve to be canceled? Deception pulled all the right cards, and is a charming watch despite its procedural trappings. It might not be the most original show on TV, but the viewership was good and after facing the axe after just one season, we’re of the opinion Deception was cut too soon.

The fans agree, as they have launched a petition calling on Netflix to save the show. Looks like the streamer’s got some big decisions to make ahead of the 2018-19 TV season.

Kevin (Probably) Saves the World

NBC’s angelic-themed dramedy follows Kevin (Jason Ritter) – a down-on-his-luck suicide survivor who moves in with his sister Amy (Joanna Garcia) and her daughter Reese (Chloe East) in an attempt to piece his life back together. However, his life is given an entirely new meaning when he’s tasked by God with saving the goddamn planet.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? The premise is offbeat and smart, but the show struggled a bit in its first season with the execution of whether to go deep or keep it light. Could it have done with another season to decide? Probably, but no one’s all that fussed either way.

Marvel’s Inhumans

The superhero series based on the Marvel comics of the same name focuses on the Inhumans – an alien race with superpowers that gets in contact with earth. Starring Anson Mount, Serinda Swan, Ken Leung, and Iwan Rheon.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Yes and no. While there was a flurry of viewers who campaigned for ABC to give Inhumans a second chance and showrunner Scott Buck said he was developing more ideas for the show, it was definitely a weaker figure in the Marvel canon and was pretty dull overall.

New Girl

The quirky ukulele-playing antics of Zooey Deschanel are amplified when her character moves in with (shock, horror) three single guys. Oh, just think of the japes they’re going to have!

Did it deserve to be cancelled? We’re of the view this show should never have made it past the meeting room. In other words: yes.

The X-Files

After fourteen years off the air, Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) dust off their investigative caps for the heroic return of one of Fox’s most successful franchises, as the pair delve back into the strange and unexplained in The X-Files reboot.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Maybe yes, maybe no. It doesn’t matter either way because it will no doubt be brought back from the dead when the network execs are ready for another nostalgic cash in.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Full of sharp, savvy wit and heartfelt character studies, Fox’s hit comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine centers on Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) – an immature but talented NYPD detective who has a lighthearted approach to crime, much to the dismay of his commanding officer, the serious and stern Captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher).

The show’s glory is found in its ability to not only poke fun at crime show clichés, but also spin them with a fresh and quirky comedic take. Also, Terry Crews is an absolute gem as Sergeant Terry Jeffords.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? NOPE, no way, absolutely not. This show has so much more to give. Fortunately, NBC agreed and after an inspiring save campaign from the show’s dedicate fandom, the network has picked the show up for a sixth season. Victory, sweet victory!

The Mick

Kaitlin Olson of It’s Always Sunny fame stars in this light-hearted comedy portraying the mishaps of a broke AF aunt who is forced to take care of her wealthy sister’s spoiled kids after the mom flees the country to avoid criminal charges.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? The show transcended trash heap territory with strong acting from its core cast, but unfortunately the whole bad parenting angle was overly familiar to the viewers. That said, it was definitely easy watching and could probably have done with maybe one more season, if only to find out what happened after that tumultuous cliffhanger finale.

Last Man on Earth

Turning the post-apocalyptic genre on its head, Last Man on Earth is a quirky comedy about a man who survives a virus that wiped out most of the human race. However, when his wish for some goddamn company comes true, he gets more than he bargained for when that company shows up in the form of other survivors. Starring Will Forte, January Jones, and Cleopatra Coleman.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? In an ironic twist of fate, the show about the last man standing met its end when Fox made the decision to cut the show after four seasons.

With its finale ending on a cliffhanger and a hugely widespread save campaign including a petition of over 15,000 signatures, we think Last Man on Earth deserves to be saved from annihilation to continue into S5. Fingers crossed, folks!

Lucifer

A police procedural show with a satanic twist, Lucifer centers on the titular character (Tom Ellis) who’s had enough of being the dutiful servant in hell and decides to spend some time on earth to better understand humanity. Where better place to settle down than in Los Angeles – the City of Angels.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Definitely not – and the fans agree, which is why they fought so hard for the show’s return and Netflix picked Lucifer up for a fiery fourth season. Hooray!

The Exorcist

The horror series is based on the novel of the same name written by Peter Blatty and is a sequel to the movie The Exorcist, following three priests dealing with cases of a demonic presence targeting a family and a foster home.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? No way! While the idea of The Exorcist in TV form was met with a collective eye-roll from the movie’s fans, the show benefitted from a sharp cast, a dignified delivery, and some genuine scares, and we’re of the view it should’ve been carried on for another run.

Ghosted

The supernatural comedy starring Adam Scott and Craig Robinson saw the two teaming up to investigate paranormal wrongdoings like a laugh factory Mulder and Scully. Fox cancelled it after just one season, some mishandled scheduling, and subsequent low ratings.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Absolutely not. Ghosted had its issues, but it’s nothing that couldn’t have been easily ironed out with a little TLC. Real talk? It seemed like Fox didn’t even give it a chance.

Life Sentence

The CW comedy stars Lucy Hale as a young woman living life to the fullest after a fatal cancer diagnosis, but who is then forced to face some harsh reality when it turns out she’s going to survive. The first season averaged fewer than 500,000 viewers.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Yes. The show failed to connect with audiences and though it had some uplifting sentiments and humor, it also wasn’t delivering anything terribly original.

Valor

The army drama starring Matt Barr and Christina Ochoa underperformed in ratings, with The CW opting not to bring it back for a second season.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Valor simply wasn’t very good and that’s the salty truth of it. With a story focusing on missing soldiers and layers of personal and military secrets, Valor could have been packed with intrigue – but instead it was stale and boring.

Shadowhunters

Freeform claimed they could no longer “make the economics work” on the hugely popular supernatural teen drama after its co-production partner Constantin Film lost its output deal with Netflix.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? As you might be able to tell from the current #SaveShadowhunters campaign fans have been running ever since the cancellation news broke, the show still has a passionate fanbase fighting for its survival.

Shadowhunters is smart, witty, and suspenseful and has a diverse set of unique characters (with plenty of LGBTQI representation), making it a one of a kind show that doesn’t deserve cancellation.

The Affair

Apparently executive producer Sarah Treem always envisioned The Affair as being a five season series, which is why the show is drawing to a natural close rather than being shockingly cancelled by Showtime out of nowhere.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? The show is currently wrapping up its fourth season (the best one so far) and it feels like one more season would be enough to bring The Affair to the satisfying denouement fans want to see.

Ash vs. Evil Dead

Starz axed the horror comedy after three seasons when ratings sunk to a dismal 225,000 viewers. Subsequently, cherished cult star Bruce Campbell announced he was retiring his boomstick as The Evil Dead character Ash Williams forevermore – which is super sad.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? There’s an argument to be made that Starz has always been the wrong network for this show. It may have prospered better on a SVOD service where fans of the cult horror franchise could watch it at their leisure.

Ash vs. Evil Dead had some magnificent potential, uproarious episodes, extremely loveable characters, and gloriously OTT lashings of gore that we want to see more of.

Broad City

It’s been one of Comedy Central’s best comedy shows since it debuted in 2014, but the network (and creators Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer) announced earlier this year that the upcoming fifth season will be Broad City’s last.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? The end of Broad City also seems like an end of an era but in the best possible way – it’s bittersweet to say the least.

Though we love the show, recent seasons have seen a notable dip in quality compared the first two and both Glazer and Jacobson keep moving forward in their careers in new and exciting ways. The end of Broad City could signal the start of bigger and better things.

Timeless

After being cancelled for a first time following S1 of the show (and mercifully brought back from the TV graveyard for a second season), Timeless was cancelled for the second time in the show’s history in June.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? No, and everyone kind of knows that by now. Which is probably why NBC gave in to fan demands and ordered a movie for the supremely smart, historical, witty, and heartfelt series to tie up loose ends.

Difficult People

Though the Hulu series was cancelled at the end of 2017 (and not in 2018), we’re still ferociously bitter about the whole thing. The Julie Klausner & Billy Eichner led comedy from Amy Poehler was axed after three (near perfect) seasons.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Difficult People is one of the queerest, shadiest, wittiest, and smartest comedies we’ve ever seen on television and it definitely didn’t earn its place in the garbage.

Chance

The Hugh Laurie noir-esque thriller about a tortured neuropsychiatrist sucked into a life of police corruption, manipulation, and abuse managed to survive two seasons (but as TV Line suggested, probably only because Hulu was legally obligated to honor its initial two-season deal).

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Chance isn’t terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but it has failed to attract an audience or critical buzz despite being well reviewed upon release.

However, the show is a little middle of the road, which is an issue when there’s currently so much competition in the bingewatching SVOD landscape.

There’s a chance you may not have even heard of the show before it was cancelled – which suggests it was the right decision.

The Crossing

The sci-fi thriller stars the always amicable Steve Zahn as a well-meaning sheriff investigating why 47 immigrants have arrived in town and are claiming to be fleeing a war that takes place 180 years in the future. ABC cancelled it after just one season.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Like many other shows on this list, The Crossing isn’t a bad one. But it also isn’t good enough to really compete against other shows with a similar tone or angle.

Disjointed

The Kathy Bates led Netflix Originals stoner comedy follows a lifelong lover of Mary Jane as she finally lives her dream and opens a weed dispensary in Los Angeles.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? There are few shows on this list that deserved to be cancelled more than Disjointed. The Chuck Lorre comedy set new standards for bad.

Colony

The sci-fi drama starring Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies was quietly cancelled by the USA Network in July after three seasons.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? As any Colony fan will tell you, the story has only just begun at S3. There’s a great deal more potential for where the show can take the plot next and fans deserve the opportunity to see that explored.

It’s also worth adding that Colony has an extremely large and passionate fanbase that’s more than worthy of being catered to. Colony deserves to be saved if just because it’s one of the most intelligent and well-written sci-fi shows of the past decade.

Everything Sucks!

The 90s-set teen drama was cancelled by Netflix just two months after its first season debuted. The streaming behemoth explained that audiences just didn’t seem interested in the show and largely failed to make it through the first episode (nevermind the whole season).

Did it deserve to be cancelled? On the one hand, it’s tough to argue with the data. On the other, it seems too soon to cancel a show just two months after it premieres.

Everything Sucks also seemed to attract a passionate young fanbase who wanted to follow the young characters and see more from it all. Netflix could have at least given the show a bit more time to grow – we think it deserves a second season.

The Expanse

SyFy cancelled the captivating space drama after three seasons. Fans railed against the decision, while the show’s production company shopped it around to other buyers.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Regardless of whether we’re fans of the show or not, it was immediately clear that neither fans nor the cast & crew of the show were happy to just let this one go.

Their collective passion paid off and just a couple of weeks later Amazon picked up the show for a fourth season.

Falling Water

The supernatural thriller starring David Ajala, Will Yun Lee, and Lizzie Brochere was the lowest rated series in linear ratings on the USA network for both of its seasons. As a result, the cable network chose not to go ahead with a third.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Centered around a concept regarding a weirdass dream puzzle that’s a little difficult to follow (and even more difficult to explain) Falling Water should be admired for at least trying something outside the box.

However, it failed to live up to its ambition. Let’s put it this way – we’re not gonna miss it.

Famous in Love

The young adult Hollywood drama from I. Marlene King stars Bella Thorne and is based on the popular book series by Rebecca Serle. Freeform called the decision not to renew Famous in Love for a third season, which it said was a “difficult decision” to make.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Famous in Love wasn’t a masterpiece by any means, but it did provide some deliciously trashy good fun that we’re honestly going to miss.

The Fosters

Freeform cancelled the long-running family drama after five seasons, wrapping up S5B with a two-hour finale that everyone seemed happy with.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? It was time. But also, Freeform has wisely decided to give the show fresh life by granting it a spinoff series called Good Trouble centered around Maia Mitchell’s Callie and Cierra Ramirez’s Mariana. So that’s nice.

Heathers

The Paramount Network originally suspended satirical reboot Heathers from its schedule as a show of respect to the victims and loved ones of the Parkland, Florida shooting in March.

However, in June it was announced the show won’t ever air on the network and that Heathers is being shopped around elsewhere.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? We watched the first few episodes of the show and can confirm that it wasn’t great. Not only does it fail to live up to the dark, sharp wit of the original 80s movie, but it also tries too hard to be edgy.

Regardless, it’s definitely crazy that the show is cancelled even before season one has been released. Bad though that first season may be, it deserves to be seen (at least so that other people can also throw shade at it).

I Love Dick

Jill Soloway’s adaptation of everyone’s fave book to read on public transport stars Kevin Bacon as a charismatic professor who has a tremendous impact on a troubled marriage.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? The truth is that even though the show had promise, it didn’t live up to Chris Kraus’s lauded feminist classic upon which it’s based. It missed the mark and we’re not sad to see it go.

Jean Claude Van Johnson

This meta-comedy has a smart idea. Jean-Claude Van Damme plays himself – if he’d in fact been a secret agent all this time using his action career as a cover for black ops missions.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? It pains us to say this because we’re Van Damme delirious for the guy and we really wanted this show to work, but yes. It deserved to be cancelled. It was terrible.

One Mississippi

Amazon cancelled the semi-autobiographical dark comedy from Diablo Cody and Tig Notaro (based on Notaro’s life) in its big ballsy original content cull of 2018.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Not at all. One Mississippi is a tender, heartbreaking, but consistently hilarious show that we would’ve been happy to see more of.

Lady Dynamite

Maria Bamford’s absurdist and frequently acerbic comedy based on her own life was cancelled by Netflix after two seasons.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Though we respect Bamford’s singular vision and comedic style, we can’t say we ever really connected with the show or desperately hit the Next Episode button to see more.

The Last Ship

After five mysterious action-packed seasons, the compelling military thriller starring the man we’ll forever call McSteamy (Eric Dane) was cancelled by TNT.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? The show had definitely run its course and the S5 finale sounds like it’ll be satisfying enough that we won’t all be screaming for a sixth season anytime soon.

The Librarians

The fantasy adventure series starring Rebecca Romijn, Christina Kane, and Lindy Booth about a group of adventurous librarians on a hunt to save ancient artifacts was cancelled by TNT after four seasons.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? We’re of the opinion that The Librarians had good innings on the network, even if there are quite a few fans who would love to see more from the show.

Roseanne

It seemed only inevitable that the reboot of the 90s classic sitcom would end in cancellation. However, we didn’t anticipate (but in retrospect, probably should have) that it would be because of Roseanne Barr going on an Ambien fueled Twitter rant – but here we are.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Wholeheartedly. And not just because of Barr’s late night Twitter activity. The show was disappointing and we’re sick of reboots. We’d cancel them all if we could.

Seven Seconds

The crime drama from Veena Sud stars Regina King and focuses on a mother fighting for justice following the murder of her teenage son in a hit-and-run accident.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Yes and no. Though the series was well made and features a phenomenal performance from King, we always thought the concept lent itself best to a limited series rather a story told over several seasons.

The Shannara Chronicles

Based on Terry Brooks’s best-selling fantasy book series, The Shannara Chronicles stars Austin Butler and follows a bunch of heroes saving the universe against a demon army across four lands.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Sure, The Shannara Chronicles is cheesy and unoriginal, but it really isn’t all that bad for what it is.  Regardless, the two seasons we have of it are probably enough.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

S4 of the quirky dark comedy from Tina Fey is to be the last, as Netflix has chosen to end the show’s run. However, there’s reportedly a movie finale being developed to tie up loose ends and allow fans to say goodbye.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? As much as we enjoyed the first two seasons, we’ve definitely found our interest in the show waning along with the quality of the comedy. It’s the right time for Kimmy to go.

Versailles

The raunchy period drama about King Louis XIV (George Blagden) and his court at Versailles has just aired its S3 finale and apparently that’s it for the show.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? Considering the show has always been outlined as taking place across four seasons, we can’t help but think fans (along with the cast & crew of the show) deserve to be given that fourth season as planned.

Mozart in the Jungle

Boasting Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman as executive producers and Gael Garcia Bernal, Lola Kirke, and Malcolm McDowell as main cast members, this enigmatic and often surreal musical drama made classical music look sexy as hell.

Did it deserve to be cancelled? We would have honestly enjoyed at least one more season before the show was played off stage, particularly as all four seasons of the show have been an absolute treat to witness. So no – it didn’t deserve to be cut so soon.
