Ava Breeze: From the recording studio to the set of “Irreverend”

Are you looking for some new music to help get you through the day? Ava Breeze is an indie, bedroom-pop artist with singles that are going to become regulars on your daily playlist. Her most recent single “Young Love” dropped this Valentine’s Day, and just recently Breeze filmed a music video for the song while performing at the c with Indi.

Soon Ava Breeze will be starring in new streaming series “Irreverend,” and ahead of her debut, we had the opportunity to talk to her about music, acting, and where she finds her inspiration.

When did you first know that you wanted to be a musician?

I have always been singing around my house and choir. It like a singing girls dream to actually BE A Singer/songwriter!

I have always made up silly songs since I was little, until the pandemic. Something more serious struck me with my music and I started actually writing songs with Melodies.

When I wrote “Girls of Summer” and it had so much internal meaning and expression, I knew I wanted to make it real. It felt like I had found something buried inside myself.

How did you actually get started making music professionally?

The first song “Girls of Summer” I partnered with Thomas Dodd. He is an amazing musician and he taught me what programs I could use, what I needed to get etc…. He helped me in every way! Thomas and his piano genius friend Brooks Smith, created the backing track and Thomas did all the production and engineering. He taught me so much about production.

What has it been like for you to get such enthusiastic reception for your songs?

That is a dream come true! Writing something that people relate to and want to hear feels incredible. When it’s something you write it feels very raw putting it out there, it’s personal. If they like it or hate it, it came from me and that is a vulnerable place.

Can you talk us through your creative process in the recording studio?

Well, I haven’t spent much time in a studio! I record on a condenser microphone and share my vocal wave files with my producer. Currently I am working with Josh Marsh in Arizona. One day I hope to be in the same place and truly get the most out of the vocals and production. This is how it started in a pandemic, and has remained.

Where do you find inspiration for your music?

Everywhere! literally I could be at a party and see so much fake-ness or be with a person I care about and never want the moment to end. Anything I touch or see could stimulate an idea for a song.

Especially when I know other people have those same moments. Maybe something I write touches someone or they realize they aren’t alone in feeling that way.

You’ve released an impressive amount of singles recently. Does that mean we can expect to listen to an album from you in the near future?

I am hoping the singles I’ve made round out to be my first album. I have introduced them in a creative order and hope when it’s finished you feel like you know me and this journey.

The next set of songs will be so different because they will be based off of this ride, and all that I’ve learned! I will keep creating for sure!

What’s your mission as an artist? What do you hope people take away from listening to your music?

I just hope people relate to my music, either feel something or realize something within them.

I just hope to one day turn on the radio and hear my music being played, pull up to a traffic light and see someone singing with it! When you know the words you feel them. I guess that’s what I want the most is for people to feel something.

Can you tell us about your experience playing at NYFW?

I absolutely love performing! It’s one thing to record, it’s another when you can see the faces of the people around you as you sing. Performing at NYFW having a billboard announcing my performance in Times Square was amazing!!!

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

I have a very eclectic taste in music. I have always listened to music in the car with my parents and they each like different music. There isn’t a genre that I don’t like!

I love artists like Tori Amos, Enya, The Indigo Girls. Then I also switch it up with like, Eminem, all old school rap, and love Nicki Minaj… moving on with Dave Mathew’s, Tool, the Smiths, Morissey, Depeche Mode, then Sia, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Aurora, Lana Del Rey etc…

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. I feel like there is a time and place for all music and I’m inspired by all of it!

What are some of your favorite albums of all time?

Tori Amos “Little Earthquakes”

Taylor Swift “Reputation” and “Red”

Your a regular on the streaming series Irreverend. How did you get involved in that project?

Irreverend hasn’t come out yet, and I’m so excited for it. It will be showcasing at festivals prior to release on Amazon Prime. I play Judith, she is very type A but, quirky and serious. It is the first leading roleIi’ve ever played and to be on an upcoming series is very exciting.

Is acting something that you’ve always been interested in?

Yes! I watched Barney and wanted to know how I could be a kid on the TV.

What was your biggest challenge while working on the series?

My biggest challenge was balancing too many things while shooting! I was a competitive cheerleader and I thought I could do it all. I learned that you can’t do it all, if you want to do each thing at peak performance, and you have to make choices.

What did you enjoy most about it?

I loved being with like minded people all working together and it showed me where I belonged.

Do you think audiences will connect with anything in particular when they sit down to watch Irreverend?

Irreverend is a comedy, and I feel like people will enjoy it as an escape from their own lives, and spend time in our odd town of entertaining characters.

What can you tell us about any of your upcoming projects?

Only that I will be doing a lot lol!

I will be working on an indie film project, in addition to more recording and performing! I may even be laying tracks on another artists album???!!!

What are some of your biggest goals for the future?

I want to keep growing in my music and also on screen. I hope to one day, have a top ten hit on the Billboard charts, and also get to work on a major motion picture.

If you could give just one piece of advice to someone who wants to start a music career of their own, what would it be?

Don’t let anything get in the way, just do it! You can do so much more than you think! Never listen to those that say you can’t, especially your own mind!

Where can people keep up with you and your work?

You can find me on Instagram @avabreeze_

My music is available wherever you stream music.
