CBD is growing in popularity. But what is it? Learn more about CBD and its various health and physical benefits.

What Is CBD?

CBD otherwise known as cannabidiol is a major “miracle” phytocannabinoid found in the Cannabis sativa plant, discovered in 1940 it is one of 113 known cannabinoids in the cannabis plant and can make up to 40% of the plant. CBD is non-psychoactive and is widely considered to be therapeutic and beneficial.

Now, as stated before CBD is not psychoactive, meaning that it wont give you the same euphoric effects as THC but instead all the health benefits. This has led to huge popularity and demand over the past five years especially, its possible to buy most things with CBD infused these days from soap to coffee.

The Acceptance Of CBD And Hemp

Over the years people have stigmatized anything to do with cannabis due to its famous psychoactive tendencies. This meant that the benefits of CBD and other cannabinoids were not researched thoroughly. The Uk government did slowly start to realize the benefits that CBD could bring and in 2015 the first cannabis-based medicine became available in the Uk under prescription.

This was a huge step in the right direction for CBD products and since then we have seen a sharp rise in products and companies popping up all around the Uk. Now, when it comes to hemp and its flowers they are legal so long as they contain less than 0.2% THC (the compound that gets you high). However, it is still illegal to grow hemp in the Uk without a license from the home office. Hemp is slowly but surely making its way into our world though, you can make clothes from it, paper and there’s even a car made from hemp! The benefits of this fibrous plant are endless, this could be how we save our planet.
