Spring watch: Shows and movies hitting Hulu this April

Remember when Hulu was a take-it-or-leave-it sorta streaming site? Perhaps noticing a sink amongst its competitors, its Hulu helpers have taken on a truckload of truly addictive and unique TV shows in recent years, giving it more than enough pull to keep us glued to its ever-increasing schedule.

You’ll be pleased to know some of its best shows are returning in the month we call April, as well as some classic movies you’ll definitely want to revisit. Here are our best picks followed by the full list in case you miss any new hits. Because no one likes missing content, especially when your buddies hear about it first. #firstworldproblems

Westworld: Season 2

April 22

Why not jump right in with one of the most anticipated TV show returns of 2018? The sci-fi / Western hybrid blew us away when it premiered in 2016 and finally it’s back with a second season promising to follow up on the finale in which Delos Incorporated struggled to contain the breakout from the streets of Sweetwater. Expect more robots being human and humans being bastards.

New Girl: Season 7

April 11

In its seventh and final season, it’s time to say farewell to our favorite kooky comedy ?. We know – we’re sad too – but at least we’ve got eight juicy new episodes to quench our Zooey Deschanel (500 Days of Summer) thirst. With so much wrapped up in season six, the seventh installment will take a four-year jump forward. Could this mean a New Girl baby is on the way? Tune in on April 11 to find out!

The Crossing: Season 1

April 3

In this new mysterious sci-fi thriller a group of refugees are discovered fleeing a war that doesn’t take place for another 250 years. Time warp! But definitely not the kind you want to dance to.

The Handmaid’s Tale: Season 2

April 25

Only a couple more weeks until we finally get to revisit our beloved dystopian drama by heading back to Gilead and finding out the fate of our fearless protagonist Offred (Elisabeth Moss). This season looks to be just as harrowing as the first – there’s even gonna be a trip to the dreaded Colonies. Blessed be the freakin’ fruit, we’re excited for this one.

Tragedy Girls (2017)

April 18

Are you tired of seeing the same old horror tropes rehashed, rejigged, and refucked to the point where even soulless demonic forces are a total yawnfest? Us too. That’s why we’re stoked about this new slasher flick from Tyler MacIntyre (Patchwork).

Offering a twist on the slasher genre, Tragedy Girls follows two death-obsessed teens (Brianna Hildebrand & Alexandra Shipp) who use their online show about real-life tragedies to send their small midwestern town into a frenzy and thus cement their legacy as modern horror legends. Time to get stabby in the most fetch way possible!

A Thousand Junkies (2017)

April 30

We’re most excited about this directorial debut from writer & director Tommy Swerdlow heading to a major streaming site. In what we describe as a modern American take on Withnail and I, three junkies struggle their way through cold turkey as they try to find a hit in LA. If only their drug dealer’s wife didn’t have to go and have a baby. Some people can be so selfish.

Death Becomes Her (1962)

April 1

While this gloriously dark comedy from director Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future) might not have bagged the Streepmeister one of her many many Oscar nominations, it without a doubt remains one of her most entertaining movies to date (a divisive opinion, but one we’re standing by.) We can’t wait to revisit this campy 90s cult classic, telling the story of two lifelong rivals who try to cheat the ageing process with the aid of a magical potion.

Taxi Driver (1976)

April 1

“Are you talkin’ to me?” Arguably one of Martin Scorsese’s best collaborations with muse actor Robert De Niro, Taxi Driver is an absolute masterpiece of modern cinema. We know you’ve seen it a gazillion times, but why not make it a gazillion and one? Can’t hurt.
