Did The Weeknd really get over Selena Gomez? Fans don’t think so

On Tuesday, The Weeknd AKA Abel Tesfaye released a new music video for his song “Save Your Tears,” which is a part of his latest album, After Hours, which was massively successful when it dropped in 2020. The music video has many of his fans talking and there are plenty of reasons why.

Many fans believe that this music video confirms that Abel may not be over his ex-girlfriend & fellow pop sensation, Selena Gomez. Here is what you need to know about his latest music video and why fans see connections to his ex-gf.

The Weeknd’s new look

The video for “Save Your Tears” continues the story of this new character portrayed by The Weeknd who we first met in the music video for “Heartless.” The Weeknd has appeared as this character in all of the videos for songs from After Hours and even has donned the red suit & afro in his live performances.

Throughout his time portraying this character, The Weeknd’s face has become increasingly battered until he finally appeared at the American Music Awards with his face wrapped in bandages. This music video unveils the bandages, showing his new face which is sporting a sharpened chin, puffed-up lips & cheeks, and surgery scars.

The internet has thoughts

Many fans have compared this look to “Handsome Squidward” and have made jokes about how the singer “can’t feel his face,” a joke based on one of his hit songs. The Weeknd then performs the song to a masked audience, before grabbing a beautiful woman who isn’t wearing a mask. He then pulls out a gun, almost forces her to shoot him, and then dances around with it.

There’s a lot to discuss in this video. His new look has caused a stir on Twitter & social media and this character has seemingly turned into a disco-based version of Joaquin Phoenix’s character from Joker. However, there is one detail that has many fans stirring the tea which involves the model who appears in the video.

Selena look-alike

The model who The Weeknd invites up to the stage in the music video is Bianca Rojas, who many fans are claiming looks similar to Gomez. This has caused an uproar on Twitter with fans claiming that The Weeknd is sending a message in the video that he is still not over Gomez, who he dated back in 2017.

Some fans even believe that Abel whispers “Selena” at the 2:03 timestamp of the video. It’s hard to confirm that he is saying “Selena” there as it’s very quiet, but he is clearly saying something involving an S. Other fans who love drama are also bringing up another one of Abel’s ex-girlfriends, model Bella Hadid, who some believe Abel could also be referencing in the video.

Did Rojas confirm fans’ theories?

In an Instagram post from Rojas, she shares her gratitude for being in the music video. An account named “selenag.is.best” commented on this post saying “You were looking like Selena” to which Rojas responded, “But I gotta keep an eye out for Selenerrrr.”

This could just be Rojas making a light joke based on the comment, but fans are questioning whether or not this could be Rojas quietly confirming that she is supposed to look like Gomez in the video.

The Weeknd gave the internet lots to talk about with the “Save Your Tears” music video, but of course, fans love to create controversy by creating theories about things that aren’t even present in the music video. Nothing has been confirmed about Rojas supposedly looking like Gomez but Twitter always loves to go crazy about potential relationship drama.
