Lori Loughlin update: Where is she serving her prison sentence?

Lori Loughlin is about to serve her lenient sentence for cheating her daughter’s way into college. Even better for Loughlin, she gets to serve her sentence out at her first choice prison, a cushy prison “camp” in Victorville, CA.

Known for playing Aunt Becky on Full House, Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, pled guilty to conspiracy for bribing their daughter’s way into a prestigious college in a nationwide admissions scandal. Her guilty plea was part of an agreement her legal team reached with prosecutors.

The college admission scandal that started it all

Lori Loughlin and her husband were one of the dozens of parents that bribed their children’s way into top colleges. Loughlin paid $500,000 to falsify records that her daughter was on a rowing team in order to get her into USC. Loughlin & her husband were the 23rd and 24th defendants who pleaded guilty in the case.

After a scolding from judge Nathaniel Gorton, the Full House star was sentenced to a $150,000 fine, 2 months in jail, and 100 hours of community service. Even better than receiving this light sentence (women who previously falsified records to send their kids to better schools have served years in prison, and not cushy ones), she gets to pick her prison.

Why Victorville?

The low-security federal work camp is two hours away from Lori Loughlin’s home. It was Loughlin’s first choice in her agreement with prosecutors. While the judge approved her first choice in Victorville, the Bureau of Prisons still needs to approve it before she’s definitely being sent there.

Victorville isn’t a strict lockup. According to Pink Lady Prison Consultants, Victorville Federal Prison is a minimum-security women’s lockup. It boasts “open bay” dormitories, two and four-person cubicles, and four-person rooms where inmates are housed.

Inmates can also participate in several vocational and rehabilitation programs, including driving, gardening, food preparation, and education.

Wait, did you say prison consultants?

Holli Coleman, a former federal inmate who spent fifteen months in a low-security federal prison, founded Pink Lady Prison Consultants. It’s a consulting firm for women facing possible federal prison time, helping women navigate federal legal proceedings and prepare for their time inside

In January, Lori Loughlin hired a prison consultant to teach her martial arts. The consultant also told her what to expect from life behind bars. At the time, she could have faced up to 45 years in prison for her part in the scandal according to Fox Business

However, John Fuller, another prison consultant, told Fox Business that she received bad advice. Knowing martial arts & self-defense, according to Fuller, makes an inmate a target for fellow inmates. Fuller cited a jiu-jitsu expert who was convicted & sentenced for raping and killing his son. Inmates gang-raped him within hours of learning about his crime (the attack was also in line with an honor code in prisons to not harm kids).

What will Lori Loughlin’s life be like inside?

From the Victorville prison handbook, Lori Loughlin’s life is about to get a lot more regimented. Lights are on at 5:30 AM and beds must be made military style. Personal property has to store in a locker. Any boxes or bags are automatically considered contraband

We also hope Lori Loughlin likes green, because her uniform will consist of “proper fitting green trousers, long or short-sleeved green shirts, socks, and issued safety shoes,” per the prison handbook.

Lori Loughlin will be allowed up to five books & five magazines in her quarters on her desk. She will have to clean her windows, mop her floors, and take out her trash daily. No posters are allowed to be hung in her facility per the handbook, so there will be no Shawshank Redemption style escapes.

When does Loughlin’s prison term start?

Lori Loughlin must surrender herself to Victorville by 2:00pm on November 19. The prison is two hours from her house, which is why she chose to go there. Court documents procured by Page Six say “a facility closest to her home in CA, preferably the camp at FCI Victorville”.

Lori Loughlin’s husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, was approved for his first-choice prison, too, a federal prison in Lompoc, two hours away from their mansion, where he will spend five months.
