1 Jaws (1975)

Directed by the cinematic legend that is Stephen Spielberg, Jaws is a classic 1970s disaster movie. 

When a giant man-eating shark terrorises a small town beach community, the local sheriff enlists the help of a marine biologist and an old salty sea dog to hunt down the monster and save the summer.

2 The Meg (2018)

Jason Statham stars in this Jaws-inspired deep sea romp in which a 70-foot prehistoric shark, the megalodon, is released from a hitherto undiscovered realm beneath the ice. Tough guy Statham is tasked with saving seafarers from this intelligent, man-eating monster.

3 Finding Nemo (2003)

For those viewers who enjoy a fun, family fin flick, Finding Nemo could be right up your alley.

In this animated adventure, a timid Clownfish sets out on an epic journey to rescue his son, who was captured on the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney to spend his life in an aquarium.

4 Shark Tale (2004)

Featuring the voices of Will Smith, Robert De Niro, and Angelina Jolie, this is another fun underwater animated comedy for kids.

Oscar, a fast-talking fish, becomes an overnight sensation after he tells his aquatic neighbors that he killed the son of a gangster shark. However, Oscar’s tall tales soon come back to bite him when word gets around.

As with Finding Nemo, it’s another movie that has caused kids all around the world to ask their parents for fish tanks.

5 Finding Dory (2016)

Finding Dory is another animated fish film that was released as a sequel to Finding Nemo

Dory is a Blue Tang who is separated from her parents. In this poignant, heartwarming tale, Dory’s friends help her to be reunited with her folks, despite her short-term memory loss.

6 Blackfish (2013)

Blackfish is a somewhat troubling streaming documentary film concerning an orca that was held at SeaWorld. 

When numerous accidents and near misses concerning the interaction between the orca and his trainers finally ended in tragedy, the world was forced to rethink the use of captive killer whales and dolphins for theme park entertainment.

7 A Fish Called Wanda (1988)

In this 1980s classic, Wanda, a con artist, attempts to double-cross her gang and her lover after carrying out a diamond heist. However, things go pear-shaped when Wanda falls in love.

8 The Reef (2006)

The Reef is an animated movie that was originally released as Shark Bait. 

In this fun, quirky family fish film, Pi, a juvenile fish, is forced to live with his aunt after his parents are caught in fishing nets. However, Pi must now protect his new home and his love interest from the local bullying sharks.

9 Ponyo (2014)

In this charming animated adventure, a goldfish princess falls in love with a human boy. As their love deepens, the princess begins to morph into a human. However, her father refuses to let her leave his watery kingdom, and when the princess finally breaks free, magical chaos is unleashed on her love’s village.

10 The Little Mermaid (1990)

The original idea behind this iconic ocean movie is the story by Hans Christian Andersen. 

A sea witch makes a deal with a mermaid princess, enabling her to meet her human prince love interest. All is well until the princess discovers that the witch has duped her and her dreams begin to unravel.
