Prince Charles & Camilla’s Clarence House account removed the option for comments recently. Here's the latest from the royal scandal.

What backlash are Prince Charles and Camilla facing after ‘The Crown’?

Social media users have targeted the Prince of Wales & Duchess of Cornwall with their latest holiday greeting via Twitter. The Crown fans are wanting to cancel Prince Charles & Camilla in memory of the late Princess Diana – and the hate is very real.

The Daily Star reported that the latest season of The Crown presented the difficulties of Prince Charles’s marriage to Princess Diana. The Netflix series depicts Camilla & Charles rekindling their relationship in the 1980s while Prince Charles was still married to Diana.

According to The Daily Star, The Clarence House removed comments from their Twitter feed after a terrible reaction on Christmas Day. The hateful commentary came from the latest season of Netflix’s The Crown.

Prince Charles & Camilla’s Clarence House account removed the option for comments after a picture of Prince Charles & Camilla captioned “Wishing you all a happy Christmas and here’s to a better New Year!” received negative reviews.

Merry Christmas?

Prince Charles & Camilla posted a short Christmas message to Twitter on their Clarence House account. The Daily Star reported that the couple looked pleased with their walking sticks, binoculars, and casual clothes. The outdoor image was taken early in 2020 by a royal staff member at their home in Birkhall, Scotland.

According to The Daily Star, Twitter users immediately criticized Prince Charles & Camilla after their Christmas post and decided to share the Clarence House tweet captioned: “They disabled replies. He knew we would flood them with Diana.”

The Daily Star reported that The Crown fans shared Prince Charles & Camilla’s Clarence House tweet. “I see #FredandGladys took off the comments again.” Fred & Gladys were the nicknames depicted in The Crown series which the royal couple used for each other back in the 1970s & 1980s.

Other The Crown fans targeted Prince Charles & Camilla. “I hated Prince Charles and Camilla before season four of The Crown and the recent podcasts I’ve indulged in, but now I loathe them. I just saw their Christmas card and I am irrationally angry.”

Disclaimer

Insider reported that The Crown has refused to place any “official disclaimer” before each episode of season 4. Although the Netflix series has received a lot of backlash for its dramatic representation of the Royal Family, they want viewers to understand that not every episode is real.

The Crown spokesperson told Deadline, “We have always presented The Crown as a drama, and we have every confidence our members it’s a work of fiction that’s broadly based on historical events”.

Royal representation

Marie Claire reported that Prince William has not been happy with The Crown’s latest depiction of the Royal Family. A royal source told the Daily Mail, “The Duke of Cambridge (Prince William) is none too pleased with it. He feels that both his parents are being exploited and being presented in a false, simplistic way to make money.”

In an interview with The Daily Mail, a friend of Prince Charles stated The Crown creator Peter Morgan has misrepresented the Royals in “quite a sinister” way. The source told The Daily Mail, “Morgan is clearly using light entertainment to drive a very overt republican agenda and people just don’t see it.”

According to Marie Claire, a royal source criticized The Crown. “They have been lured in over the first few series until they can’t see how they are being manipulated. It is highly sophisticated propaganda”.

The Daily Star reported that even staff members believe the series has been misrepresenting the Royal Family. The Queen’s former Communications Secretary Dickie Arbiter stated that The Crown is “over the top on dramatic license”.

Although Prince Charles & Camilla are receiving a lot of criticism over Netflix’s fictional drama The Crown, Camilla isn’t letting the public’s view bother her. Let us know in the comments what you think about the Royal’s depiction in the latest season of The Crown.
