Coronavirus in Los Angeles: Who has gotten the infection?

The coronavirus has hit all-out panic mode, and we can’t help but admit that we’ve been swept up in the wave of fear sweeping our nation. As even Disneyland and Universal Studios shut down, the coronavirus in Los Angeles has reached epic proportions.

Dozens of movie and TV sets have stopped production, new releases are being delayed, and according to our reporter in tinsel town, there isn’t a toilet paper square to spare from frantic shoppers hitting the stores in preparation for coronavirus: Los Angeles edition.

Here’s everything we know about who has already been diagnosed and who has self quarantined as we face coronavirus in Los Angeles and beyond.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson

We know. News of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s coronavirus diagnosis came out a couple of days ago, and the couple is currently quarantined in Australia, not Los Angeles. However, can we even talk about stars being afflicted with coronavirus and not talk about the biggest star of all, Tom Hanks?

According to officials from Queensland Health, the Australian government department overseeing the outbreak of the disease there, the couple is thought to have contracted coronavirus in Los Angeles or on their flight to Australia.

Hanks is in Australia for pre-production on Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic for Warner Bros. Hanks will play Elvis’ manager Colonel Tom Parker.

Rita Wilson is also working down under, on March 5th she performed songs from her new album Halfway to Home at Brisbane’s Emporium Hotel. On March 7th, Wilson made her debut at the Sydney Opera House.

Tom Hanks has been keeping fans in the loop on his diagnosis, tweeting an update yesterday stating, “Hello folks. Rita Wilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us. We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?”

Destin Daniel Cretton

THR reports that Destin Daniel Cretton, the filmmaker who is currently directing Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has self-isolated, halting production on the movie while he awaits the results of his coronavirus diagnosis.

The official statement to the movie’s crew references that Cretton has a newborn baby at home, and is being hyper-vigilant about his health in this scary time.

Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell

Literally minutes before the NBA suspended the rest of its season, Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert received an official diagnosis of coronavirus. Currently, 20% of NBA players are facing quarantine based on their contact with Gobert.

Gobert’s teammate Donovan Mitchell received his official diagnosis on March 12th, after all members of the team were tested following Gobert’s diagnosis.

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau

While not a star in the entertainment world, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau tested positive for the coronavirus on March 12th. Justin Trudeau is under self-isolation after his wife began showing symptoms on March 11th following a speech in the United Kingdom.

Joy Behar

While not diagnosed with coronavirus, The View’s Joy Behar has decided to take time off from hosting the show, electing to go into self-isolation. The longtime co-host appeared on a pre-taped episode that was released on March 13th to announce her decision to stop hosting at this time. Behar cites her age (77) and the vulnerability of her age group as her reasoning for self-isolation at this time.

With the US currently experiencing a huge shortage of tests to diagnose coronavirus in Los Angeles and throughout the country, many of those who are afflicted have no way of knowing if they are currently afflicted with coronavirus and infecting others.
