We now know that a black Superman movie is officially on the way. But just who will be cast in the titular role? We have some ideas that may work!

Who will Warner Bros. cast as Black Superman? Join the movie debate

Cinephiles’ jaws collectively dropped to the floor in the wake of the surprising news that Warner Bros. and JJ Abrams were planning on making a new Superman movie, with the titular hero being black. While we are all desperately wishing that this incarnation of Superman will be the character of Calvin Ellis, it is looking more and more like Warner Bros. is moving along with another iteration of the Clark Kent story . . . huh?

Even after the critical & audience approval of HBO Max’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it appears that WB and their DC properties are still in a state of flux as to which direction this universe is currently rolling towards. Is this new Superman movie along with The Flash supposed to reset the timeline of everything that has come before? That’s a discussion for another time. For now, we have other questions that need answers.

Most importantly, just who will WB and producer JJ Abrams cast as our new Superman? While nothing has been confirmed, we have some ideas of our own that will surely be under the consideration of WB execs. Don’t worry, hardcore DC fans of the world; we’re going to be very careful on who we cast so that it does not mess up any timelines sorry Aquaman’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Here are our picks for the next Superman movie!

John David Washinton

Denzel Washington as Jor-El and his real life son John David Washington as Cal-El? Sign us up!

John David Washington, who has already made an immediate impact in Hollywood with his excellent work in films like Blackkklansman, Tenet, and Malcolm & Marie has earned the right to be considered as the next actor to dawn the red cape. Washington brings a sense of humanity to each role he plays, a perfect characteristic for an alien struggling with his identity on an unfamiliar planet.

We think he’d kill it, as his daddy would have in the early 1990s.

Lakeith Stanfield

Lakeith Stanfield is making quite the name for himself with today’s Hollywood elite young circle of upcoming stars, having done impressive work in his smaller roles in films such as Get Out, Straight Outta Compton, and this past year’s Judas and the Black Messiah. There’s a certain intensity that Stanfield brings to each role, making the audience question his motives but never his heart.

Michael B. Jordan

Did you really think we were going to forget to mention this young actor’s name? Yes, Michael B. Jordan did have a small stint in the MCU, but we think he still has some make up work to do after appearing in Josh Trank’s Fant4stic film a few years back. Penance . . . let’s just call it that.

It is no secret that Michael B. Jordan is one of the best actors working today, outright. However, having it been recently announced that he will not only star in but also helm the upcoming third movie in the Creed franchise, we doubt his schedule would find any breaks to play the son of Krypton. Still, this feels like ideal casting, as Jordan’s talents, as well as physique, are already well-equipped to play Superman in a new movie.

John Boyega

With little to his resume outside of the latest Star Wars Trilogy as well as Attack the Block, we don’t think we’ve yet seen the best of John boyega and his acting talents. However, while we have a little to say about the under development of his character Finn throughout the progression of the Disney Star Wars trilogy, we’re not necessarily saying that Boyega cannot carry the mantle of a character as important as Superman.

Boyega still might be raw, but we’ve seen enough talent there to warrant a possible Superman casting, as his screen presence is as charismatic as any young star today.

Who would you consider casting for an upcoming Superman movie? If you were to poach one actor out of the MCU and put them into Clark Kent’s red boots, who would it be? Do you think it’s right that Henry Cavill will no longer be playing Superman? Comment below and let us know your thoughts.
