Edinburgh Short Film Festival needs to be on your list

For ten years, the Edinburgh Short Film Festival has been showcasing the best shorts of filmmakers around the world. With all genres accepted, it truly is a competition of the best of the best short filmmakers in the world.

If you’re looking for a place to show off your latest short, the Edinburgh Short Film Festival is still accepting submissions for its 2020 season. If you’re a short film creator through and through, this is the festival to submit your work to without a doubt.

Other short film festivals reach out to help build their program

If you were looking at entering the Budapest Short Film Festival, Sardinia Film Festival, Adriatic Film Festival, or the Filmcorti Firenze Festival, these festivals have their programming picked by the Edinburgh Short Film Festival.

One of the top short film festivals in the UK, this festival has been going for ten years as of 2020, and is one of the most trusted names when it comes to shorts. To get in with the Edinburgh Short Film Festival is to get in with the biggest European short film festivals.

Even split of content creators

A lot of festivals just have a jury of men with one or two women, but the six-person jury judging the Edinburgh Short Film Festival has a 50/50 split. With the talent from Puppet Animation Scotland, ITV Drama, MUBI, Northampton Filmhouse, and Take One magazine, it’s a talented bunch working behind the scenes.

But the fact that it’s a half and half split means there’s a variety of voices behind the scenes judging your films. With judges who have done a variety of aspects of the film industry judging your film, each aspect can be judged properly.

Animation is acknowledged

Especially in short films, animation is a great tool to use to enhance the storytelling of your film. But if you’re using it as your medium, it feels unfair judging your story compared to live-action because of the stigma around animation. While your story can be just as good as live-action, people don’t always see it that way.

So while you can compete for the top prize, there’s a category for animation at the Edinburgh Short Film Festival. If you win this award in particular, it’ll net you similar prizes to the grand prize, including film fest invites, a script listing in InkTip, a Best Film trophy, and £250.

Still time to submit your film

Of course, grand prize isn’t too shabby. You’ll get £400, a Best Film trophy, your logline listed in InkTip magazine as well as an InkTip script listing, film fest invites to sister festivals, and inclusion on curated programmes with film festival partners.

If your short is ready to go, you can submit your film now on FilmFreeway for the 2020 Edinburgh Short Film Festival. Make sure your film is maximum of 25 minutes. You have until June 22nd to submit your film, and this is one of the few festivals just for short films. So you do not want to miss your chance. Enter today!
