Got the coronavirus vaccine? Now you can get free donuts in 2021
Let them eat donuts! For those of us who have been lucky enough to snag a coronavirus vaccine in the U.S., we have some very exciting news to share.
The popular donut chain Krispy Kreme is offering a delectable incentive for those willing to get the coronavirus vaccine . . . a free donut! Wait, that’s it? Hold up for just one second, there’s more. A free donut for every day of 2021 for Americans who can prove they’ve gotten their coronavirus vaccine, likely by showing your vaccine card which proves you’ve gotten one of the available COVID-19 shots.
America’s obesity problem aside, this sweet treat might just be the kick in the pants that many American citizens need in order to be persuaded to get the coronavirus vaccine. The other day, President Joe Biden announced that the U.S. has already vaccinated over 10% of the population, a healthy start in making our way towards herd immunity. However, we still have a battle in front of us, and maybe a little glaze frosting will help!
Krispy Kreme adds a sweet incentive
Krispy Kreme announced Monday that anybody who shows proper coronavirus vaccine validation will be able to receive a free original glazed donut at any one of its U.S. stores, “anytime, any day, even every day, through the remainder of 2021” said chief marketing officer Dan Skena to ITK.
He continued: “We all want to get COVID-19 behind us as fast as possible and we want to support everyone doing their part to make the country safe by getting vaccinated as soon as the vaccine is available to them.”
As well, the company announced that they would be supporting both health care workers and volunteers alike in this fight to administer U.S. coronavirus vaccines by delivering free sweet treats to vaccination sites across the country. Equally as cool is the fact that the donut chain will be paying its employees up to four hours paid off to get the coronavirus vaccine themselves. Good on you, Krispy Kreme!
U.S. coronavirus vaccine update
According to recent data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly one in every six U.S. citizens have been fully vaccinated for the coronavirus.
As of today, there are three vaccines that are being used to fight the spread of COVID-19 and end the current global pandemic. The first vaccine, developed by Pfizer-BioNTech, was first administered in the U.S. at the end of 2020. The second vaccine to fight COVID-19 was developed by Moderna, which was also first given the green light for emergency use at the tail-end of 2020.
Both of these coronavirus vaccines are estimated to combat the coronavirus with an impressive effectiveness rate of over 93%. However, both vaccines currently require two separate doses, with each needing several weeks in between to build the proper antibodies for protection against the deadly disease.
A third coronavirus vaccine, this time developed by Johnson & Johnson, was given the OK last month. This vaccine, while not as efficient as Pfizer & Moderna, is said to have an effectiveness rate of over 85%, and requires only a single shot. Now, we’ve learned that a fourth vaccine by AstraZeneca, currently being used in Europe, is said to have an effectiveness rate of 70% percent, coming one step close to being available in the U.S.
