Light Therapy: The 21st Century Skincare Hack?

Who hasn’t imagined grabbing a futuristic spa treatment while watching a sci-fi movie? Growing up, I faced several problems with my skin. I suffered from occasional zits to overly oily skin. Getting flawless skin within minutes was always a dream for me. But I never thought this opportunity would appear within the 21st century! Many of you have already guessed it; I’m talking about light therapy.

The Kardashians, Kate Moss, Julia Roberts to Victoria Beckham, who isn’t doing it? Nowadays, Instagram is flooded with various light therapy gadgets. And every celebrity is getting the therapy. Some cool gadgets paired with a light therapy device can make you feel like you live in a very far future. Who doesn’t want that?

Overview

For the past few years, the buzz of light therapy has increased significantly. It promises you clear, spotless, flawless, much younger-looking skin. Spoiler alert, it delivers it too; just have a look at Julia Robert’s recent Instagram posts! With the help of this blue LED light therapy, forget about wrinkles, dark circles, and acne. The different colored light penetrates different skin levels and deals with the various enemies of the skin.

The red light strengthens the cells of our skin and removes wrinkles. It also targets the oil glands and stops the generation of acne. Blue lights kill the bacterias of the face and stimulate the production of oxygen. So, bye-bye, face dirt, see you again never. Amber lights help with the pigmentation of our face, so no more looking pale. Thus the skin becomes brighter, and the inflammation is thrown in the bin, where it deserves to stay.

What is LED Light Therapy

On the eve of the 20th century, U.S. Navy SEALs developed this therapy to heal wounds and muscle tissues rapidly. Since then, many pieces of research have been done. And within 2021, the handled version of this therapy became available to us. Here different colors of light are used, which benefits our skins significantly. The LED lights got no UV-rays. So it’s safe to use, and anyone with any color of skin can use it.

Why Consider Using a Light Therapy?

It’s the 21st century, and we are pretty busy. But we are not going out without looking our best. So light therapy is our best friend! It doesn’t take more than 20 minutes for each session and can be achieved with a dramatic change in look within 10 appointments. It improves your skin’s pigmentation. Thus the damage from age spots disappears. Inflammation from acne and wrinkles keep a distance from your skin.

Your skin benefits differently from different colored lights. Let’s take a look at them briefly.

Red Light

Red light treats the outer layer of your skin. Your skin absorbs this light and revives the collagen proteins. This protein makes your skin look fuller and smoother. Lines or wrinkles in your face disappear due to this light. Also, it improves the fluid circulation in your skin. So the irritation of your skin evaporates, and it starts to glow like there’s no tomorrow.

Blue Light

Blue light targets the oil glands of your skin. Almost everyone, at some point, has faced problems with oily skin. It causes dirt to stick out; therefore zits, acne snatches away your beauty. Blue light makes these oil glands less active and kills the bacteria responsible for generating the skin condition.

Severe acne pimples, either cysts or nodules, will keep away from your skin. A 2018 animal study has found that blue light can significantly heal third-degree burns.

Getting Your Light Therapy

You can either purchase an at-home device or seek professional help. For your convenience, I’m going to give an overview of both procedures.

Home Procedure

Most at-home devices come in the form of masks or wands. One has to apply it directly on the face for several minutes. The important thing is, you need to carefully read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully and apply your device accordingly.

Professional Procedure

In this case, you need to book an appointment beforehand. Depending on the result you are looking for, you may require up to 10 appointments. Each treatment lasts about 20 minutes. Some providers may ask you to lie directly under the light, while others may use light wands on your skin. Although it highly depends upon the office of the provider and the treatment of your skin.

Targeted Areas

Technically light therapy can be applied to any part of the body. But the consumers tend to choose the body parts that are often exposed for light therapy. Their Faces are the most prominent of them. Other than the face: the neck, chest, and other body parts that tend to show aging signs are popular among the customers.

Possible Side Effects

The American Academy of Dermatology has declared the LED light therapy procedure safe.LED lights don’t contain any harmful rays. So your skin is free from long-term damage and may not involve any harmful medical condition. Unlike laser therapy, it doesn’t cause any burn or pain too.

Although, if you have sensitive skin, the light may cause scarring sometimes. So, never consider getting light therapy if your medication makes you irritable. There were no significant side effects during the trial period of light therapy. But consult a doctor if you are having the following symptoms after treatment:

  • Inflammation
  • Redness
  • Rash
  • Pain
  • Hives
  • Tenderness

Everyone desires to have attractive and flawless skin. And with light therapy, it’s not a dream anymore. With a ten-session of treatment, our skin can have a significant glow that will make others jealous.

Although seeing a professional is recommended, in-home light therapy can be a very good option for you. The result of LED light therapy is not permanent, so make your appointment after the recommended period. Make good choices and live your extra life beautifully.
