Staying focused for your next box set binge? Here are the benefits of CBD

This time last year, many of us were looking at all the amazing box sets out there, from classic TV obsessions to new Netflix and Amazon releases and longing to have the time to actually watch them. What a difference 12 months makes. 2020 will be remembered for many things, one of which is likely to be as the year we box set binged like never before. 

The trouble is that after one or two episodes of even the most compelling drama, it can become challenging to stay focused on who’s who and what’s happening. It’s what we might call the “24 effect,” as Kiefer Sutherland’s classic vehicle is the original binge fodder.

Could CBD see you through?

2020 might also be remembered as the year the world went crazy over CBD. In case you’ve spent recent months in an extreme form of isolation, CBD is a cannabinoid, meaning it comes from the cannabis plant, but unlike THC it does not get you high. There are literally dozens of claimed medical benefits that CBD brings, and while some are most likely on the fanciful side, many have been clinically proven through various trials. 

One such benefit is CBD’s ability to improve your focus by naturally encouraging the flow of serotonin into the brain. Serotonin in a neurotransmitter that promotes feelings of well being while at the time tuning down the receptors that are associated with sleep, anxiety and addiction. 

The net result is that CBD makes you feel alert and sharp. Ideal for improving focus, and not just for when you are trying to keep up with who’s who in House of Cards or Orange is the New Black.

How to get your daily dose

 The simplest way of taking CBD is by ingesting a couple of drops of a good quality CBD oil each day. All you need is a couple of drops onto your tongue each morning and you will soon start to feel the benefit. Alternatively, there are CBD capsules on the market that provide a ready-made dose. The only downside is that it takes a little longer for the CBD to start doing its work.

CBD edibles and drinkables are another hot topic, and present a more interesting source of CBD that is less of a chore than taking oil through a dropper or swallowing a capsule. Really, the world is your oyster here. There are some super-healthy CBD infused minerals on the market that are sugar-free and pH-balanced. For something that looks more of a guilty pleasure but is actually just as good for you, try one of the many CBD sodas that are starting to fill the chillers in the health food stores. 

For those with more traditional tastes who are not on a health-food kick, you could make yourself a pot of CBD coffee before you turn to the box sets – or for a movie night with a difference, there are even beers and wines that are made with CBD!
