Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
When you think of casinos, where’s the first place that springs to mind? It is, of course, the amazing city of Las Vegas in the Nevada desert. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a movie that all fans of casinos will appreciate.
This cult classic, starring Jonny Depp, is about a sports writing journalist and his wife, who embark on a chemically-enhanced psychedelic trip from L.A to Las Vegas. Depp’s character has a drug problem and, knowing the reputation of Sin City, decides to cover a major sporting event in Vegas, while indulging his demons in the process.
The movie features comedy, dark moments, cops, drug dealers, and Vegas, in all its gritty glory.
Recently, Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci teamed up in the epic Netflix movie, The Irishman. Before that, though, back in the 90s in fact, the three worked together in Casino.
Casino sees De Niro playing an ex mobster, now on the straight and narrow, managing a casino in Vegas. Things go South, when his old friend played by Pesci, who is still a high-ranking gangster, visits him and asks him for help running his casino. Needless to say, this isn’t legal, and things begin to go very wrong.
With rival gangsters and the FBI closing in, this movie is as intense as it is entertaining. As you can probably tell, it isn’t one for the kids.
If you want something a little more light-hearted, The Hangover is ideal. It sees four best friends attend Las Vegas for a stag weekend of strippers, gambling, partying, and drunken debauchery.
After a night of partying, they wake up hungover, with no recollection of the night before. To make matters worse, the groom-to-be, is missing.
Featuring a hilarious cameo from Mike Tyson, a tiger in the hotel room, a missing tooth, and a baby, this hilarious comedy sees the three stags trying to get to the bottom of what happened the night before, and where their best friend has disappeared to.
This is a prime example of where the saying ‘What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas’ originated from.
