'Spencer' just might prove to be an award-winning performance for Kristen Stewart. But did she nail the iconic lewks of Princess Diana in the movie?

Vintage Chanel: Kristen Stewart’s iconic lewks in the movie ‘Spencer’

Actress Kristen Stewart has seemingly come a long way with audiences since her days portraying Bella in the Twilight Saga, but has her acting gotten so good due to her resorting to possible method acting, diving deep into the headspace of the characters she’s portraying to the point of possible insanity? Well, given her comments after recently filming the movie Spencer, it does appear that Kristen Stewart has taken a dive.

Spencer chronicles the stories of Princess Diana around the holiday season of the early 1990s, where she was weighing the decision of leaving her husband Prince Charles and leaving the British Monarchy altogether. Now, with the film available to watch, many people are curious just how accurately the film portrays the glamorous lifestyle of the late Princess of Wales, specifically as it pertains to her iconic lewks.

Diana, while humble, was very fashionable, and given the numerous glimpses we’ve seen in the numerous trailers for Spencer it is clear that the filmmakers wanted to get every bit of Diana right, from Stewart’s amazing performance to her overall attire. So, have you had a chance to check out Spencer? If so, what did you think of her lewks? Quite frankly, we think they absolutely nailed the shine of Princess Diana.

Spencer, which was filmed in 2020, is an upcoming biographical drama written by Steven Knight and directed by Pablo Larrain. The film will tell the story of Princess Diana during the 1991 holidays, where she decided to divorce Charles, the Prince of Wales during the festivities with the royal family at Sandringham House in Norfolk.

Spencer stars Kristen Stewart, Jack Farthing, Olga Hellsing, Thomas Douglas, Amy Hanson, Timothy Spall, and Sally Hawkins. Filming for the project ended in April of 2021, around the same time when production announced that Jonny Greenwood would be composing the score for the project.

Spencer will likely hope to capitalize off the success of current incarnations of the royal family and their centuries-old story, including Netflix’s The Crown as well as a slew of Hallmark movies centered around Meghan Markle & Prince Harry.

Stewart embodies Princess Diana

In an interview with El Paso Inc, Kristen Stweart delved into the 2020 filming of Spencer, and her newfound connection with the Princess of Wales. “She means a lot to me – but it’s all relatively new because I’m from LA and I didn’t grow up in England. Before this, she was not something that was at the forefront of my mind, because I lived so far away from it all.”

She continued: “Now, I can’t stop thinking about her. I often wonder what she’d think about what’s going on in the world right now. To be honest, I’ve now consumed pretty much all there is to consume in terms of videos and interviews. I’ve watched everything that you could hear or see. I even go to sleep with it on.”

Kristen Stewart also discussed her 2020 process of diving into the headspace of Princess Diana, reading as many biographies as she could while watching countless reels and archive footage of Diana, taking the time to appreciate not only who she was as a person but what she meant for English culture. Heck, with this attitude plus all of her iconic lewks it’s no wonder why there’s Oscar buzz for Stewart in the movie Spencer

Spencer lewks

Costume designer Jacqueline Durran (Anna Karenina) seems to amp up the level of glitz in the princesses’ wardrobe in order to heighten the sense of tragedy surrounding the pivotal 1991 holiday weekend, finding ways to incorporate some classic Princess Diana flare in such a short timeline, including lewks such as a green and red plaid blazer with a matching green velvet skirt, complemented with a Chanel bag.

However, the lewks don’t step. Stewart also bears lewks such as an orange turtleneck, a black and white checkered skirt, and a wide belt, as well as a pink cardigan over a silk camisole with some light-wash mom jeans. Equally, Stewart also dawns a yellow, lightly checkered coat with black pants, a turtleneck, and leather gloves. The costume team nailed Spencer, and we couldn’t be any happier that they did.
