Doin’ it downunder

RuPaul is bringing the hugely successful franchise of RuPaul’s Drag Race to Australia & New Zealand in 2021. Enter the fiercest queens across Australia & New Zealand going head-to-head, in the hopes of taking home the title of Down Under’s first Drag Superstar.

RuPaul serves as executive producer & host for the new series alongside veteran judge Michelle Visage. Production for the series has kicked off in New Zealand and is set to premiere later this year. The third judge and celebrity guest appearances will be announced later this year.

“We’re proud to bring the Drag Race phenomenon down under in an antipodean showdown for Stan and TVNZ On Demand!” shared Nick Tanner, director of sales & co-productions, Passion Distribution. “I can’t wait to see the best queens from Australia & New Zealand bring it to RuPaul’s main stage. RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under will be a fantastic addition to the ever-expanding ‘Ru-niverse.’”

God save the Queens!

After taking 2020 off (thanks, COVID), the queens from overseas are once again ready to slay. RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is back to serve another round of tea & we are ready for it. This season has more queens than season 1, which means there’s gonna be a lot more drama & moments to live for. Returning as host is, of course, RuPaul herself. By her side is Michelle Visage, and returning UK judges Alan Carr & Graham Norton.

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK made a big splash when it debuted in 2019, so season 2 has a lot to live up to. The big premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 2 walked the runway on January 14 in the U.S. and in the United Kingdom. Just like Friday, Thursday is now a Drag Race day!

Oh, Can-a-da!

Canada’s Drag Race is also stepping up its poutine. Four months after the RuPaul’s Drag Race spin-off crowned its first winner in Toronto-based queen Priyanka, production company World of Wonder confirmed Canada’s Drag Race will return for season 2 in 2021.

Across ten episodes throughout the summer of 2020, Canada’s Drag Race season 1 became the third English-language iteration of the global Drag Race franchise, following the American version & RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, which debuted its inaugural season in late 2019.

Other global installments include The Switch in South America, Drag Race Thailand, Drag Race Holland, and the upcoming Drag Race Spain. Producers Randy Barbato & Fenton Bailey told EW they were eyeing “three or four” new regions to host Drag Race series in the future.
