‘Westworld’ and ‘Stranger Things’ led 69th Emmy drama noms

The nominations for the 69th Annual Emmy Awards saw Westworld and Saturday Night Live taking the lead with 22 nods apiece. Coming up second in the drama category was Stranger Things with 18 nominations, including a Guest Actress mention for breakthrough Shannon Purser as fan-favorite Barb.

Other drama successes included Hulu’s harrowing The Handmaid’s Tale and Netflix’s epic The Crown, bagging 13 nominations each.

The drama ballot saw a staggering 180 submissions, reflecting the huge offering of quality programming available. There has been some disappointment that HBO’s The Leftovers wasn’t recognized, and likewise for comedy series Insecure, which despite a strong debut didn’t win a nomination.

However, popular animated series BoJack Horseman got its very first nomination for Kristen Schaal’s voiceover in “That’s Too Much Man”. Carrie Fisher also received a posthumous nomination for Guest Actress in Amazon’s comedy series Catastrophe.
