Altitude Films to distribute ‘The Boy Downstairs’ in UK

Altitude Films has acquired the UK distribution rights for The Boy Downstairs, the feature film debut from Sophie Brooks. The UK-based distributor will also present the film to international buyers at the 70th Cannes Film Festival.

Written and directed by Brooks, the romantic comedy was a hit at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, being dubbed as a “vibrant coming-of-age tale that examines the pitfalls of falling in love and growing up”.

The Boy Downstairs follows a young woman as she returns to New York after a two-year stint in London. Having found the perfect apartment, there’s just one problem: her ex-boyfriend lives in the apartment below. As old wounds reopen, she is forced to confront the former relationship and her true feelings it arouses.

The film stars Zosia Mamet (HBO’s Girls, The Kids Are All Right, Cherry) in the lead, alongside Matthew Shear (Mistress America, Horace and Pete, The Meyerowitz Stories) and Deirdre O’Connell (You Don’t Know Jack, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Secondhand Lions).

The Boy Downstairs was produced by Dan Clifton (The Belko Experiment, Hours, The Den) and David Brooks (ATM) under their Cliffbrook Films label, along with Motion Picture Capital. Paul Brooks (Pitch Perfect, My Big Fat Greek Wedding) is serving as executive producer.
