Photography finally wraps on ‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote’

We never thought it would happen, but it did. Principal photography just wrapped on the drawn-out Terry Gilliam (Brazil, 12 Monkeys) project known as The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. A mere seventeen years in the making, the movie will star Adam Driver (Girls), Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones), Stellan Skarsgård (Good Will Hunting), Olga Kurylenko (The November Man) and Joana Ribeiro (At An Uncertain Time).

Auteur Terry Gilliam, who wrote and directed the film, has been working on the project since 1989. He recently proclaimed, “Don Quixote is a dreamer, an idealist, and a romantic, determined not to accept the limitations of reality, marching on regardless of setbacks – as we have done. We’ve been at it so long that the idea of actually finishing shooting this ‘clandestine’ film is pretty surreal. Any sensible person would have given up years ago, but sometimes pig-headed dreamers win in the end. So thank you to all of the ill-paid fantasists and believers who have joined to make this long-standing dream a reality!’’

The movie, a fantasy-adventure inspired by the titular protagonist of Miguel De Cervantes’ literary classic Don Quixote, was shot in Spain and Portugal and will be released by Amazon Studios in the US, Canada and the UK.

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote tells the story of a deluded senior who believes he is Don Quixote. After mistaking Toby, an advertising executive, for his trusty squire Sancho Panza, the pair begin a bizarre journey taking them between the 17th and 21st centuries.
